When we saw Pennsylvania Nazi Jay Ashman in Elmwood Park, NJ not too long ago, we had to note that one of his crew, Steve Monteforte, was down with less racist circles just a few years ago.
"Doesn't matter," Ashman said, "we have him now" Yeah, and look what it got him: a criminal record and a public spotlight as a bonehead.
In March 23, 2003, Monteforte, along with Keystone State "Skinhead" members Steve Smith and Keith Carney, attempted to assault a black man who was simply walking down a street in Scranton, PA. The three approached him while holding bricks in their hands and asked him if he had ever been "beat up by a skinhead." As the man ran away and called police with his cellular phone, the three drove by and threw a brick at him while yelling racial slurs. They didn't think to split when the cell phone came out nor did they leave the area before the cops got there, reminding us once again that this is why we call them boneheads. Carney, who was on probation at the time, could not get out of jail on the high bond they posted on him, but Smith and Monteforte was less than his and were able to get out pretty quickly. On July 2, Monteforte copped a plea to ethnic intimidation, and was sentenced to one year probation, 100 hours of community service, and $300 in court costs. At the time of this writing, he had other charges he was facing.
It was such a simpler time for Monteforte before he went down this stupid path. You could always find him at the ska shows around the Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Area, and he opened his home up to bands coming from out of town that needed a place to stay. Needless to say, these would be multiracial bands, and Monteforte did not have a racist bone in his body. There is even an unconfirmed account of him having a black girlfriend at one time.
What happened between then and now is a question, but it is unfortunate either way. In the end it will end up hurting him and his family a lot more than those he started to hate. For all the talk by WPs about how they are fine upstanding citizens that abide by the law, while black people are a criminal class, it was when Monteforte became a bonehead that he became a criminal, and it was trying to attack a law-abiding black man that made him one. That is a good sign that he is not on the right path.
